Gratitude Week – Day 1 Summary

Thank you to everyone who entered to win an OAK backpack for Day 1 of Gratitude Week!

We asked for you to either tweet or email us a photo of something or someone you are thankful for. The responses we got were heartwarming and amazing. Since we loved your responses so much, we figured we would share them with the rest of you.

Here are some of our favorite images from #Day1:

“I’m thankful for my granddaughter Breanna, age 13, who went with me to volunteer in Ecuador. We spent two weeks with Global Volunteers working in a day care center. As the caretakers and children spoke little English, my granddaughter who has learned Spanish since kindergarten in a Spanish immersion school, worked as the translator for the adult volunteers.”

— Bobbie R.

“Attached is a photo of a group of orphans I visit and support in Nellore, India. I am thankful for each one of them and I’m thankful for the opportunity to see them grow and blossom.”

— Terry

“I am thankful for my mom. Even though I am away in college, she always spares the time to talk with me as we eat dinner together over skype. She’s the one who truly cares about my well-being without a second thought.”

— Eleanor C.

“I’m totally thankful for my amazing wife and three kids! #day1 #thankyou #blessed”

— Will B.

” I am thankful for this last picture of my dad #day1″

— Carissa J.

“thankful for my students in India #day1”

— MissD

“I am thankful for my co-team leader, Michele Cathey-Hamley NP, for her time and energy spent in helping prepare and co-lead our Medical Mission trip to Lokichar, Turkana District, Kenya with Project Helping Hands (www.projecthelpinghands.org). I could not have lead and organized this trip without her. This is a photo of us with John Musukut, Masai Warrior Leader from Kasoe Village in Masai Mara, Kenya.”

— Tory S.

“This is a photo of my dad after we reached the top of Mt Kilimanjaro despite him having severely blurred vision and need to be guided where to walk due to changes in the lenses of his eyes as a result of the low oxygen levels. He’s the toughest guy I know.”

— Ben N.

And of course, here is our Day 1 winner!

“I am thankful for my partner in life because he supports me in all that I do and encourages me to teach my sweet children, by example, how to be a giver and volunteer. I am thankful to have the opportunity to have children to teach and to pass along my love for community and service.”

— Sheena R.

Thank you again to everyone who entered. We are excited to see what the rest of Gratitude Week has in store!
